Variations in indexation of left atrial volume across different races

چکیده
BackgroundLeft atrial volume (LAV) has prognostic value. Guidelines propose indexation to body surface area (BSA), however studies demonstrate this can overcorrect for size. Limited investigate across different ethnicities. We sought evaluate the effect of ethnicity on indexation.MethodsUsing data from World Alliance Societies Echocardiography (WASE) cohort, healthy subjects were classified by race as White, Black, Asian, or Other. Biplane LAV was indexed traditional isometric measurements (BSA, height, weight, ideal weight (IBW) and IBW derived BSA (IBSA)), well previously-derived allometric height exponents (2.7 1.72). Additionally, an our cohort (linear regression logarithmic transformation = a(height)b) 1.87. All indices then assessed using Spearman correlation, with a good index retaining correlation LAV/index raw (r∼1), while avoiding overcorrection (r∼0).ResultsThere 1366 (White: 524, Black: 149, Asian: 523, Other: 170; median age 44 years, 653 females (47.8%)). In entire group, BSA, IBSA, height1.87 height1.72 performed (r > 0.9 all), minimising size, < 0.1 all). On race-specific analysis, overcorrected size in White population 0.128). Height1.72 minimised all populations ≤ races).ConclusionDespite normal BMI, there still disparity races. Allometric indexation, particularly height1.72, is possible solution, although further validation BMI extremes are required.

Association of Common Variations on Chromosome 4q25 and Left Atrial Volume in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation
AIMS Recent studies have shown that several genetic variants near the PITX2 locus on chromosome 4q25 are associated with atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the mechanism that mediates this association remains unclear. Basic murine studies suggest that reduced PITX2 expression is associated with left atrial dilatation. We sought to examine the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms ...
متن کاملA Semi-Automated Algorithm for Segmentation of the Left Atrial Appendage Landing Zone: Application in Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Procedures
Background: Mechanical occlusion of the Left atrial appendage (LAA) using a purpose-built device has emerged as an effective prophylactic treatment in patients with atrial fibrillation at risk of stroke and a contraindication for anticoagulation. A crucial step in procedural planning is the choice of the device size. This is currently based on the manual analysis of the “Device Landing Zone” fr...
متن کاملDeterminants of Left Atrial Volume in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation
INTRODUCTION Left atrial (LA) enlargement is an important risk factor for incident stroke and a key determinant for the success of rhythm control strategies in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). However, factors associated with LA volume in AF patients remain poorly understood. METHODS Patients with paroxysmal or persistent AF were enrolled in this study. Real time 3-D echocardiography w...
متن کاملDiscrepancies in Identification of Left Atrial Enlargement Using Left Atrial Volume versus Left Atrial‐to‐Aortic Root Ratio in Dogs
BACKGROUND Left atrial size is prognostically important in dogs with myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD). HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES To compare the level of agreement in identification of left atrial enlargement (LAE) between the left atrial-to-aortic root ratio (LA : Ao) and left atrial volume using the biplane area-length method indexed to body weight (LA Vol/BW). ANIMALS Sixty dogs with MM...
